BMW’s Electric M3 Concept Poses Next to the E30, Showcasing the Brand’s All-Electric Future

BMW has pulled the wraps off the M Concept Neue Klasse, a near-production preview of its upcoming electric M3 that looks like an i3 sedan on steroids.

Unveiled at the 24 Hours of Le Mans, the concept is positioned as a “preview of the new design language for high-performance automobiles from BMW M GmbH” and a “clear signal for the brand’s all-electric future.” The design carries over from last year’s Vision Driving Experience concept, refined into something that could hit showrooms.

The bodywork borrows the greenhouse and LED treatments from the i3 sedan but adds aggressive M-specific styling: custom front and rear bumpers with large openings inspired by high-speed multihull sailing boats, cube-shaped “track lights” for LEDs, flared fenders, and a pronounced ducktail spoiler.

The Monza Red metallic paint is complemented by a dark-finished splitter, side skirts, diffuser, hood scoop, and roof made of natural fiber, while M Yellow lights and aerodynamically optimized mirrors complete the look.

The concept rides on center-lock wheels with negative camber and features an M-specific chassis with wider tracks and a lowered stance. Inside, the cabin blends Neue Klasse hardware with performance-focused touches.

The i3’s infotainment and BMW Panoramic iDrive screen at the base of the windshield remain, but the rest is pure M.

Four independent bucket seats trimmed in Merino leather with five-point belts and structural elements in natural fiber are wrapped by a roll cage clad in Nubuck leather, matching the steering wheel and door cards.

The dashboard features black knit material with backlighting, and the steering wheel and center console ditch the i3’s layout for custom controls and red accents.

Under the skin, the M Concept Neue Klasse packs BMW’s M eDrive quad-motor system, built on the Neue Klasse’s Gen6 foundation and tailored for electric M models.

While BMW hasn’t quoted a combined output, reports suggest the electric M3 could land between 700 and 1,000 HP (710-1,014 PS), with the 2025 concept reportedly generating 13,269 lb-ft (17,990 Nm) of torque.

Power is routed through the BMW M Dynamic Performance Control System, part of the Heart of Joy superbrains, promising “a new interpretation of dynamics, agility, and precision” via wheel-specific power and brake control.

The 800-volt architecture pairs with a battery pack rated at more than 100 kWh, using an M-specific version of the sixth-gen cylindrical cells designed for higher outputs, fast charging, and longer range. The battery housing is structurally integrated with the axles for added rigidity.

BMW M GmbH Chairman Franciscus van Meel emphasized the brand’s commitment to transferring motorsport innovations and defining design features directly into series production, even in the all-electric era.

The electric M3—likely to wear an i-badge as the iM3—has no confirmed debut date, but 2027 is the rumored window.

Reports also hint at a mild-hybrid six-cylinder successor to the gas M3, dressed in Neue Klasse styling and tech, which would sell alongside the EV.

The concept’s placement next to the classic E30 M3 in promotional imagery leaves no doubt about its mission: to bridge BMW’s storied M heritage with its electric future.
