Alpine claims the A110 Future is the first true electric sports car

Alpine has unveiled the A110 Future, a development mule for its upcoming electric sports car, at the 2026 Goodwood Festival of Speed. The test car ditches the turbocharged 1.8-liter gasoline engine of the current A110 and replaces it with a pair of electric motors mounted at the rear, maintaining the rear-wheel-drive layout. This isn’t a simple conversion; it’s a ground-up redesign built on Alpine’s new Performance Platform (APP), featuring wider wheel arches hinting at beefier axles.

The battery system uses two rear-mounted packs arranged in a split layout to achieve a 40:60 weight distribution. Alpine is using high-energy-density cells to keep weight in check, though the new A110 will inevitably tip the scales heavier than the outgoing model’s 1,102 kg (2,430 lbs). The brand is tight-lipped on most specs but confirms an aluminum-intensive platform, cell-to-pack battery design, and an 800-volt electrical architecture with a silicon carbide inverter for efficiency.

Alpine dubs the A110 Future the “world’s first true EV sports car,” claiming it will “outperform the best of today’s combustion sports cars” thanks to “exceptional torque and performance.” The two-seater will launch in 2027, with a larger 2+2 model under the A310 nameplate planned for the future. The move comes as Alpine phases out the second-generation A110 after 28,701 units, with 35,450 total A110s built since 1969. Competitors like Porsche (718 Boxster/Cayman EVs) and Caterham (Project V) are also pushing electric sports cars, but Alpine’s focus remains on balancing performance with its signature driving dynamics.
