Volkswagen is preparing to launch the ID. Tiguan, a heavily revised electric crossover that ditches the ID.4’s underpinnings in favor of the new MEB+ platform.
While the ID.4’s production in Chattanooga, Tennessee, ended in April as the plant shifts to higher-volume products, the ID. Tiguan will arrive as its spiritual successor—though not a direct replacement in the U.S. market.
Existing ID.4 inventory will support demand through 2027, after which a “future version” will enter the American lineup.
Spy photographers have captured prototypes testing in the Alps, revealing an extensively updated design that borrows cues from the ID. Polo and facelifted ID.3 Neo while introducing bold new styling elements.
The front end features a fully enclosed grille, a new bumper with horizontal-bar lower intake (replacing the honeycomb mesh), and a center-mounted sensor pod.

Side changes include new doors, a flatter shoulder line, conventional door handles, streamlined lower cladding, revised third-quarter glass, and a reimagined rear pillar.

At the rear, expect an all-new liftgate, bumper, diffuser, and photorealistic graphic-covered taillights.

Inside, Volkswagen promises significant upgrades: a new dashboard, upgraded displays, revamped switchgear, a new steering wheel, and higher-quality materials. Under the skin, the ID.
Tiguan abandons the ID.4’s original MEB platform for the MEB+, paired with likely 58- and 79-kWh battery options and 183 kW charging capability. Upgraded motors will deliver improved performance and efficiency. First official details are expected late this year or early 2027.
