Auto Express has launched a six-month long-term test of the Volkswagen Tiguan eTSI mild-hybrid SUV, documenting its real-world performance and practicality. The test vehicle is photographed by senior Auto Express photographer Pete Gibson. The Tiguan eTSI is positioned as a family-friendly SUV with a focus on comfort and usability. The long-term evaluation began on 16 May 2026 and will run for six months, with regular updates and reviews published throughout the period. The Tiguan is described in related reviews as a practical and enjoyable-to-drive family SUV, though it is noted to carry a premium price tag. The eTSI variant uses a mild-hybrid powertrain, combining a conventional internal combustion engine with a small electric motor to improve efficiency without requiring plug-in capability. This model is part of Volkswagen’s strategy to offer electrified options across its lineup, targeting buyers seeking improved fuel economy and lower emissions without the complexity of a full hybrid or EV. The long-term test will assess real-world fuel consumption, reliability, comfort, and ownership costs over an extended period.
