Ferrari has acknowledged the rapid technological and engineering strides made by Chinese automakers, calling their products “incredible jewels” packed with comfort, features, and tech. However, the Italian marque insists it still holds a decisive edge in driving emotion and precision, areas where Maranello’s decades of tuning and heritage remain unmatched. Speaking to GoAuto, Ferrari Global Marketing Director Emanuele Carando praised the progress of Chinese brands while stressing that crafting a car that delivers raw, confidence-inspiring cornering dynamics—where the Prancing Horse excels—remains a challenge for them. ‘Developing a car which drives fast on the straight is not difficult. Developing a car which is incredibly precise when entering a curve, it stays flat, it doesn’t pitch, it doesn’t roll, and it gives you confidence and emotion … this is what we try to do. You know you are driving a Ferrari, not only when you are driving fast,’ Carando said. Despite the admiration, Ferrari downplays the competitive threat from China, arguing that its models offer longevity and timeless appeal, unlike the fast-refreshing, ‘consumable’ nature of many Chinese cars. The company also points to its unparalleled brand prestige as a key differentiator. Still, the numbers tell a sobering story in the world’s largest car market. Ferrari sold just 584 units in China in 2025, less than half the 1,221 vehicles delivered in 2023. Globally, however, the brand remains resilient. In 2025, it delivered 13,640 units, nearly matching its 2024 record of 13,752 vehicles. Through the first quarter of 2026, sales dipped slightly to 3,436 units, down 157 from Q1 2025. While the new Luce hasn’t been an instant blockbuster in China, Ferrari claims strong early interest, though it hasn’t released specific figures. The brand continues to prioritize driving engagement over autonomous tech, rejecting self-driving systems in favor of driver-focused experiences. Despite the competitive pressure from China’s rising performance brands, Ferrari insists it has no plans to cede its throne in the realm of pure driving pleasure.
