Toyota will off-road your old RAV4 for $2,050 — just not in America

Toyota is offering owners of older RAV4 SUVs in Japan a factory-backed off-road upgrade package that transforms pre-facelift models into rugged, lifted trail-ready machines.

The package includes a 50 mm front and 40 mm rear suspension lift, LED headlights from the latest facelift, flared fenders, and USB-C charging ports.

The suspension upgrade comes with new front and rear shocks and springs, designed to maintain the same on-road ride quality as the standard setup.

Before installation, Toyota service centers must conduct a pre-inspection and may need to fit a new reversing light to meet local safety standards.

The suspension kit costs 181,566 yen ($1,120) including installation, while the reversing light adds 42,570 yen ($260) if required.

The lift kit is available for all RAV4 models produced between August 2020 and November 2025, covering gas, hybrid, and plug-in hybrid variants.

Additional black exterior parts, including a front bumper, fender flares, and black-finished wing mirrors, are also available.

The fender flares cost 108,020 yen ($670) including installation, while the front bumper and mirrors are yet to be priced.

Combining the suspension kit, reversing light, and fender flares brings the total cost to around $2,050 before the unpriced bumper and mirrors.

Pre-facelift RAV4 models can also receive the latest LED headlights from the 2021 facelift, and owners can swap interior USB-A ports for USB-C outlets. A wireless smartphone charger is another available upgrade for older models.

The move underscores Toyota’s commitment to keeping the fifth-generation RAV4 relevant even as production of the model has ended, catering specifically to enthusiasts in Japan who want a factory-backed off-road makeover.
