The author of the article, who owns a 2015-2023 Triumph Tiger 1200, has been upgrading their bike with various parts, including new tires, protection bars, luggage, and heated seats. However, they wanted to improve the bike’s performance by upgrading the ECU tune. They turned to BT Moto, a California-based tuning shop with 20 years of experience, which offers a Stage 1+ ECU Flash paired with its proprietary handheld tuner, the Flasher+, for $799.
The goal of this upgrade is to provide an OEM+ solution without any piggybacks, add-ons, or deletion of emissions hardware. According to BT Moto, the stock Tiger 1200’s throttle is restricted to only 38% at redline, with a maximum opening of 72% across the entire rev range. The Stage 1+ flash addresses this by removing the throttle restriction and recalibrating the fuel and ignition maps.

An independent dyno test showed significant gains across all engine speeds, with nearly 30 additional wheel horsepower at redline. The Tiger 1200 went from 128 HP at the rear wheel in stock trim to 151 HP with the BT Moto Stage 1+ flash. The torque figures also improved, climbing from 89 lb-ft to 97 lb-ft at the rear wheel.
The setup process required a PC, as the BT Moto software is not compatible with Apple devices. The author had to buy a PC and download the software, then connect the Flasher+ unit to the bike’s OBD port and download the stock map. They then filled out a questionnaire and uploaded the stock map to BT Moto’s website, and the company’s engineers emailed the new tune back to them the same day.

After installing the new tune, the author noticed a significant improvement in the bike’s performance, with a more direct and linear connection between the throttle and the engine’s response. The power delivery is now linear and relentless all the way to the top of the rev range, with less vibration in the upper range. The author also noticed an improvement in heat management, with less heat radiating off the engine during warm-up and while riding.
