Italian coachbuilder SGT Automobili has flipped the script on retro-modern design with the 55-SGT, a carbon-fiber homage to the legendary 1990s Deutsche Tourenwagen Meisterschaft (DTM) Alfa Romeo 155 V6 TI. Beneath its razor-sharp, boxy bodywork—complete with welded-shut rear doors, flared wheel arches, and a menacing front splitter—lies the mechanical backbone of a modern Alfa Romeo Giulia Quadrifoglio.
The transformation is so faithful that even the original rear door seamlessly integrates into the rear wheel arch, a signature feature of the 1990s DTM racers. SGT didn’t just stop at aesthetics; the 55-SGT’s body is entirely hand-laid carbon fiber, slashing weight while maximizing aerodynamic performance.

The car generates over 1,000 pounds of downforce at 143 mph, ensuring the same sticky grip that made the 155 DTM a track terror. The wheels, custom-built by O.Z. in a classic five-spoke design, echo the period-correct look of the original race car.
Inside, the Giulia’s familiar dashboard and steering wheel remain, but the center console is replaced with a race-spec carbon-fiber panel packed with switches and buttons. The infotainment screen is gone, replaced by a new digital instrument cluster, and the rear seats have been swapped for a roll bar—because this isn’t a car for passengers.

Under the hood, the 55-SGT retains the Giulia Quadrifoglio’s 2.9-liter twin-turbocharged V6, but with significant upgrades. The road-legal Stradale version comes in three power flavors: 513 HP, 552 HP, or a fire-breathing 612 HP, while the track-only Trofeo version cranks out 740 HP.

Both versions ditch the Giulia’s standard ZF eight-speed automatic transmission for beefed-up versions of the same gearbox, now mated to a bespoke all-wheel-drive system developed by SGT. This isn’t just for show—it’s a nod to the original 155 DTM, which also sent power to all four wheels.
Drivers can even toggle between AWD and RWD with a switch for those who crave classic rear-wheel-drive antics. SGT Automobili is limiting production to just 55 units each for the Stradale and Trofeo, with no official price announced.

Given the extensive re-engineering, carbon-fiber body, and one-off drivetrain, it’s safe to assume these cars will command a price tag that dwarfs most houses. For enthusiasts who value uniqueness and raw driving emotion over stuffy hypercar exclusivity, the 55-SGT is a far more compelling proposition than a limited-run exotic.

Or, if you’re content with something more accessible, the Giulia Quadrifoglio itself remains a bargain compared to this rolling DTM time capsule.
