BYD is officially bringing its high-end luxury electric vehicle brand, Denza, to India on November 13, 2026. Originally established in 2010 as a 50:50 joint venture between BYD and Mercedes-Benz, Denza is now fully owned by BYD. The brand aims to target the Rs 80 lakh to Rs 1.5 crore luxury EV segment, going up against rivals from Mercedes-Benz, BMW, Audi, Genesis, and Avinya. Initial vehicles will arrive via the Completely Built Unit (CBU) route, utilizing the 2,500-unit homologation exemption quota, with local assembly considered later depending on demand. Denza will operate through separate, exclusive high-end retail showrooms across major Tier-1 and Tier-2 cities in India.

The first model expected for India is the Denza D9, a 7-seater electric MPV designed to compete against the Mercedes-Benz V-Class, MG M9, Lexus LM, and Toyota Vellfire. The D9 measures 5,250 mm in length, 1,960 mm in width, roughly 1,920 mm in height, and rides on a 3,110 mm wheelbase. Exterior features include the signature Pi-Motion grille, a full-width rear tail lamp bar, powered sliding doors in both directions, soft-close doors, a panoramic sunroof, and 18-inch alloy wheels. Inside, the cabin features high-grade Nappa leather, open-pore wood inlays, ambient illumination, and Air Spa zero-gravity second-row captain seats with 14-way electric adjustment, leg rests, heating, ventilation, a 16-point massage function, and a recline angle of up to 152°. The screen array includes a 15.6-inch central touchscreen, a 10.25-inch digital instrument panel, a passenger-side display, and optional rear screens. While globally offered in plug-in hybrid and fully electric forms, India will receive only the EV version equipped with a 103-115 kWh Blade battery, offering both front- and all-wheel-drive layouts and a global range of up to 800 km.

Following the D9, Denza plans to introduce the Z9 GT, a low-slung, five-seat shooting-brake grand tourer. Designed by Wolfgang Egger, the Z9 GT measures 5,195 mm long, 1,990 mm wide, 1,490 mm tall, with a 3,125 mm wheelbase, featuring dual-bar headlamps, active aero components, a rear diffuser, rear-wheel steering, and a crab-walk function. The interior boasts Nappa leather, a 17.3-inch floating central touchscreen, dual 13.2-inch displays for the driver and front passenger, an expansive AR head-up display up to 50 inches, digital side-mirror screens, ventilated, heated, and massaging seats, twin 50 W wireless charging pads, a panoramic glass roof, and a 20-speaker 1,150 W Devialet audio system with Dolby Atmos. Propulsion comes from a high-output triple-motor setup powered by Blade LFP batteries ranging from 100 to 122.5 kWh. Output ranges from approximately 710 to 850 kW (roughly 952 to 1,156 PS) with over 1,100 Nm of torque, pushing the car from 0 to 100 km/h in 2.7 to 3.4 seconds. Top speed is quoted at 270 km/h with a range of about 600 km and ultra-fast charging capabilities allowing a 10% to 97% top-up in roughly 9 minutes.
