Chevrolet has confirmed that the 2027 Chevrolet Express will carry over unchanged from the 2026 model year, marking another year of zero updates for the iconic full-size van. The Express, which debuted for the 1996 model year, has remained virtually identical since its last major refresh in 2003, defying industry trends of rapid model-year changes. GM Authority reports that the 2027 Express lineup will include the Cargo Van, Passenger Van, and Cutaway variants, with the Passenger Van available in LS and LT trims.
Commercial buyers can choose from a range of cargo and chassis-cab configurations. Under the hood, the van continues to rely on GM’s naturally aspirated engines: a 4.3-liter V6 producing 276 horsepower and 298 pound-feet of torque, and a 6.6-liter V8 option with 401 HP and 464 lb-ft. Both engines are mated to an eight-speed automatic transmission sending power to the rear wheels.

The Express and its twin, the GMC Savana, remain stalwarts in GM’s commercial lineup, with the automaker ending production of the medium-duty Silverado truck later this year. Despite competition from newer models like the Ford Transit, Ram ProMaster, and Mercedes-Benz Sprinter, the Express and Savana sold 58,578 and 20,679 units respectively in 2025, compared to Ford’s 161,797 Transits (including 5,186 E-Transits). GM’s commitment to the Express reflects a philosophy of stability, with the van’s lineage tracing back to the G-Series van introduced in 1971—a model that remained in production until 1996.
The Express has now been in continuous production for 30 years, making it one of the longest-running nameplates in automotive history.
