Volvo Group has confirmed that Mack Trucks will unveil additional additions or revamps to its truck and tractor lineup in the coming months as part of a sweeping on-highway and vocational portfolio overhaul scheduled for completion in 2027. The announcement came during Volvo Group’s 2026 Capital Markets Day in Eskilstuna, Sweden, where executives outlined progress on the initiative that began with the launch of the Pioneer flagship Class 8 on-highway tractor in April 2025. Mack has already refreshed the Granite and Anthem models and introduced the Pioneer and Keystone models over the past year. The company is now targeting the longhaul segment, which represents 43% of the heavy-duty truck market in the U.S. and Canada, where Mack held just a 1.6% share in 2025. Mack’s current North American market shares by segment in 2025 are Vocational at 13.7%, Regional Haul at 11%, and Longhaul at 1.6%, according to Volvo Group data. Stephen Roy, head of North American truck operations, emphasized the need to expand beyond existing customers, noting that 45% of Pioneer sales and orders have come from new customers. The Pioneer’s more aerodynamic design compared to the legacy Anthem is seen as a key tool to revitalize Mack’s presence in the longhaul market, a segment Volvo Group CEO Martin Lundstedt described in 2025 as “almost absent” for Mack. To support these ambitions, Mack is building a new 1.7 million-square-foot, $700 million manufacturing facility in Monterrey, Mexico, slated to begin production in July 2026. The plant will produce trucks for both Mack and Volvo Trucks North America (VTNA), with VTNA’s output destined for the U.S. and Canada and Mack’s output serving Mexico, Latin America, and the U.S. and Canada. The expansion is also expected to double Mack’s export business across Central America, South America, and the Caribbean. Mack will focus on three key export markets: Mexico, Chile, and Colombia, described as mature markets with fleets investing heavily in new and sustainable technologies. The company plans to target 18 countries in total. Alongside these efforts, Volvo Group has set a goal to capture a 25% share of the North American heavy-duty truck market by 2030, with VTNA contributing 15% and Mack contributing 10%. In 2025, VTNA held a 9.1% share of U.S. Class 8 retail sales, while Mack held an 8.7% share, according to Omdia Automotive. Roy reported momentum building in 2025, with Mack ending the year at a 9.3% market share and expressing optimism for continued growth in 2026. The order book for the new Keystone tractor, which replaces the Pinnacle introduced in 2006, will open late in the third quarter of 2026. Meanwhile, the revamped Granite’s order book will open in the second half of 2026.
