SRC Moto Lowered Seat Review: Honda CRF300L Rally

SRC Moto in Pendleton, Oregon has rolled out a simple yet game-changing solution for riders struggling with the tall seat height of the Honda CRF300L Rally.

The stock seat stands at 35.2 inches, a height that can be a nightmare for riders with inseams under 32 inches.

The reviewer, with a 29.5-inch inseam, found themselves constantly on tiptoes when stopping the Ultimate Motorcycling Honda CRF300L Rally Project Bike, which is equipped with YSS fork internals and an MG456 rear shock, leaving almost no sag and keeping the seat height stubbornly high.

Enter SRC Moto’s OEM Honda seat, hand-cut down by roughly 2 inches, transforming the riding experience.

The lowered seat is available as a turnkey option for $428 MSRP for the Rally version or $348 for the standard CRF300L, both prices undercutting the cost of the OEM Rally seat assembly ($268) plus SRC’s $218 rework fee ($486 total), making the turnkey option a $58 discount.

For those who already own a seat, SRC Moto offers a lowering service for $218 plus shipping, with a promised five-day turnaround.

The reshaping removes the upper portion of the seat and shaves off 9 ounces, while increasing the width at the rider’s contact point from 8 inches to 9 inches—an unexpected comfort boost.

The ergonomic tradeoff is a 2-inch rise in the handlebar and footpegs relative to the seat, which reduces legroom but wasn’t a dealbreaker for the reviewer, even on a 146-mile freeway stretch. The real-world impact of those 2 inches became clear during a near-miss incident on a recent ride. A speeding car emerged from behind a parked step van just as the reviewer initiated a left turn.

With the lowered seat, they were able to plant their left boot firmly, avoid a collision, and prevent a potential drop.

SRC Moto’s craftsmanship and customer service earned high marks, with the lowered seat delivering a tangible safety and comfort upgrade. The only question left: is the ergonomic change worth it? For the reviewer, the answer is a resounding yes.
