Ford’s recall chaos continues. After setting a record for vehicle recalls in 2025 and issuing millions more in 2026, the automaker now faces a fresh wave of re-recalls covering more than 387,000 previously recalled vehicles that weren’t fixed properly the first time. According to Road and Track, the affected models span Ford’s lineup from 2012 to 2020, including the Focus, Fusion, Mustang, Escape, and multiple appearances of the F-150. The Lincoln Navigator and Nautilus are also included. While the specific issues vary, Ford insists software updates will resolve them — this time for real. The original recalls, logged in NHTSA archives, were also supposed to be fixed with software updates, raising questions about whether the patches installed correctly or failed to address the root cause. The re-recalls target six distinct issues across seven NHTSA recall IDs, ranging from minor regulatory violations to serious safety hazards.

The largest, NHTSA ID 26V369000, affects 255,404 Ford Focus models from 2012 to 2018. The issue: a malfunctioning canister purge valve that can stick open during the evaporative leak monitor test, creating excessive vacuum in the fuel system. This can stall the engine and prevent restart, or even deform the plastic fuel tank. Next up, NHTSA ID 26V373000 covers 91,198 F-150s from 2018 to 2020. Here, the daytime running lights fail to dim when the headlight switch moves from “Autolamps” to “Headlamps On,” violating Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard 108. NHTSA ID 26V374000 targets 18,124 2017 Ford Escapes where power windows may not reverse automatically when an obstruction is detected, applying excessive force before reopening. NHTSA ID 26V375000 involves 10,742 2018 F-150s: shifting from Park to Drive too quickly can cause the gear selector display to blank, leaving drivers unaware of their actual gear — potentially in Reverse or Neutral.

Transmission troubles return with NHTSA ID 26V376000, affecting 5,252 Focus models (2015–2018) and Fusion models (2013–2016). The PowerShift dual-clutch transmission’s clutch may slip excessively, leading to overheating, pressure plate cracks, and even transmission case punctures from debris. Ford claims a software update can reprogram the transmission to better detect and prevent clutch slip. Two separate instrument cluster glitches round out the list. NHTSA ID 26V370000 hits 4,445 2017 F-150s, where the cluster may fail to initialize in cold conditions. NHTSA ID 26V372000 affects 2,349 vehicles including the 2019 Ford Mustang, Lincoln Navigator, and Lincoln Nautilus (still listed under the old MKX name in some NHTSA documents). Here, the instrument cluster may go blank on startup due to a faulty memory chip — a fix Ford says it can bypass via software.
