Dacia’s budget EV Spring is moving production to Europe — and it’s getting pricier

Dacia has confirmed the next-generation Spring will abandon its Chinese-built origins and switch to European production, riding on the modern Renault Twingo E-Tech platform.

The new model, dubbed the New Spring, marks a clean-sheet departure from the original Spring, which debuted in 2021 as a rebadged Renault Kwid built in China on the aging CMFA-EV architecture.

The original Spring received a major exterior and interior refresh in 2024, followed by a power and battery upgrade in 2025, but it remains in production.

The New Spring slots above it in the lineup, offering a boxier design with clean surfacing, squared-off LED taillights, and a five-door hatchback silhouette.

Inside, Dacia promises four proper seats and a usable boot, continuing the brand’s practical, no-frills approach with the YouClip accessory-mounting system for added versatility.

Under the skin, the New Spring ditches the old CMFA-EV platform for the AmpR Small architecture shared with the Renault Twingo E-Tech.

While Dacia has not disclosed official power outputs or battery capacity, the Twingo’s 80 HP electric motor and 27.5 kWh battery are expected to carry over.

The new model will be priced from under €18,000 (approximately $21,000 / £16,000), making it more expensive than the outgoing Spring, which launched at €11,900 in Germany earlier this year.

Since its 2021 debut, the Spring has sold nearly 210,000 units across Europe, cementing its status as one of the region’s most affordable EVs.

Dacia has yet to release full interior photos or detailed specifications, but the shift to European production and a modern platform signals a significant upgrade in capability and positioning for its budget EV lineup.
