A 1976 Saab 99 GL wearing a $14,900 Craigslist sticker is parked in Denver, Colorado, daring buyers to decide if the price is fair for this Swedish oddball.

The two-door coupe—finished in Sienna Brown with gold-painted Panasport-style alloys—is one of the last of Saab’s original 99 range-toppers before the 900 took over in the late 1970s.

Under the forward-opening clamshell hood sits a 1,985 cc SOHC inline-four that traces its roots to a Triumph design, mounted backward atop the transmission and driven via a drop-down chain.

Saab later brought engine production in-house and added Bosch fuel injection to this 2.0-liter mill.

The seller claims a full rebuild in December 2021 refreshed the engine, clutch, cooling system, brakes, and suspension, while the four-speed manual was rebuilt at the same time.

With 155,000 miles on the odometer, the car’s age shows in the cabin: beige broadcloth upholstery on wide, flat seats still looks inviting, but the driver and passenger seats show shoulder fraying and the rear bench has a vinyl tear at the base.

The period-correct AM/FM/cassette stereo remains intact, and the dash layout is pure Saab eccentricity—ignition switch ahead of the shift lever and seatbelts that slide under locking fingers in center-mounted receivers.

The seller includes a factory service manual, three boxes of parts, and a set of four soccer-ball alloys. The title is clean and the car allegedly carries that unmistakable vintage Saab wool aroma.

The owner, a Saab enthusiast, says they’re slowly downsizing a 42-year collection and admits the parting is bittersweet. The asking price is $14,900—cheap for a classic 99 of this pedigree, but still a chunk of change. Is it a bargain or a bridge too far? You decide.
