Mitsubishi’s $11,700 kei EV doubles as a mobile power bank

Mitsubishi has refreshed its tiny eK Cross EV kei car with a 1,500-watt AC outlet that turns it into a mobile power bank, perfect for camping or backup power during outages.

The refreshed model sports a cleaner, color-matched design with a redesigned front bumper, slim illuminated bar replacing the grille, and new body-colored trim.

The split headlights remain, but the Dynamic Shield grille is gone, giving the EV a friendlier look distinct from its combustion sibling.

The profile ditches plastic cladding on wheel arches and side skirts, while the color palette expands to eleven options with five new bi-tone shades. Inside, a new 100V AC accessory outlet on the lower dashboard can power devices up to 1,500 watts.

The flagship P trim adds two USB-C ports and one USB-A, and the mid-spec G grade now includes a heated steering wheel and heated front seats as standard. Safety gets a boost with Rear Seat Alert standard across the lineup.

The electric powertrain remains unchanged: a 63 HP (47 kW / 64 PS) electric motor with 195 Nm (144 lb-ft) of torque and a 20 kWh lithium-ion battery delivering a WLTC range of 180 km (112 miles).

Pricing starts at ¥2,446,400 ($15,200) for the base G Business Package and peaks at ¥3,214,200 ($20,000) for the P trim, but Japan’s EV subsidies slash the entry price to ¥1,872,400 ($11,700).

The updated eK Cross EV is available to order in Japan now, with first deliveries expected later this month. Its closest rival is the Honda N-One e:, though the upcoming BYD Racco looms as a major threat.

Mitsubishi’s kei lineup also includes the ICE-powered eK Cross, eK Wagon, eK Space, and Delica Mini.
