German tire recycler Pyrum Innovations has finalized a long-term supply and offtake agreement with Pirelli under the Italian tire giant’s European tire-to-tire initiative. The deal secures a steady stream of end-of-life and scrap tires from defined sources in Germany for Pyrum’s thermolysis recycling process, while Pirelli gains access to Pyrum’s recovered carbon black (rCB), marketed as ThermoTireBlack (TTB), for use in its European tire production. Pyrum uses its proprietary thermolysis technology to break down end-of-life tires (ELTs) into two main outputs: recovered carbon black (rCB) and tire pyrolysis oil (TPO), sold under the brand ThermoTireOil (TTO). The rCB is upgraded and can partially replace fossil-based carbon black in new tire manufacturing, while the TPO serves as a circular feedstock for the chemical industry. The agreements validate Pyrum’s recycling technology on an industrial scale and demonstrate its integration into an ISCC+-certified European value chain that includes tire, chemical and synthetic rubber companies. Pyrum CEO Pascal Klein called the long-term agreements with Pirelli a key commercial and strategic milestone. The collaboration is part of Pirelli’s broader tire-to-tire initiative, launched alongside partners BASF and Synthos, aimed at reintroducing secondary raw materials recovered from ELTs back into new tire production.
