U.S. medium-duty truck sales rose 4.8% year-over-year in July, driven entirely by a 39.4% surge in Class 6 demand, according to Omdia Automotive data. Total Classes 4–7 retail sales reached 18,023 units, up from 17,204 in July 2025, but down 10.8% from June’s 20,210. Class 6 was the only segment to post an annual gain, climbing to 7,091 units from 5,086, while Class 7 fell 6% to 4,906, Class 5 dropped 8% to 5,024, and Class 4 plunged 30.2% to 1,002. Ford led Class 6 with 3,432 units sold and also topped Class 5 at 2,615. Freightliner led Class 7 with 2,160 units, and Isuzu led Class 4 with 683. ACT Research Vice President Steve Tam suggested local transportation jobs may be fueling Class 6 demand, noting that some buyers turn to medium-duty trucks to avoid commercial driver’s license requirements. He pointed to rising local job growth in transportation even as broader sector employment declines, calling the Class 6 segment the clear beneficiary of this dynamic.
