The refreshed 2027 BMW 7-series arrives with a heavily chiseled exterior, a massive array of interior materials and tech, and an expansive binder of options for paint colors, wheel designs, and drivetrains. The exterior features a blocky front end, a high hood line, a twin-bulge hood, an available glowing grille surround, and crystal headlights. Side sheetmetal is upright with a high character line running from nose to tail, complemented by wheel choices ranging from standard 20-inchers to several 21-inch multi- and cross-spoke designs. At the rear, doubled horizontal taillights span the width, while the gas model hides its tailpipes to mimic the electric variants. The V-8-powered M760 features visible exhaust tips.

U.S. powertrain options include the base rear-wheel-drive 740, featuring a turbocharged 3.0-liter inline-six with a 48-volt hybrid assist that now makes 394 horsepower thanks to a new turbo setup. The 740 is also available with xDrive all-wheel drive, which BMW states will do a 0–60-mph run in under five seconds and reach an electronically limited top speed of 155 mph. The 483-HP plug-in hybrid 750e comes standard with xDrive and pairs a turbocharged 3.0-liter six-cylinder engine with an electric motor, completing the 0–60 sprint in about 4.6 seconds. An incoming twin-turbo V-8 will also join the lineup.

All-electric buyers can choose between the 449-HP i7 50 and the 536-HP i7 60, both utilizing a two-motor, all-wheel-drive configuration. The i7 50 covers 0–60 mph in a claimed 5.3 seconds with a top speed limited to 130 mph, while the i7 60 accomplishes the 0–60 pass in 4.6 seconds on its way to a 149-mph top speed. The 2027 i7 models switch to cylindrical battery cells offering increased energy density, boosting usable energy capacity from 101.7 to 115.5 kWh for improved range and faster charging. BMW states the i7 60 delivers a range of over 350 miles and recharges from 10 to 80 percent in 28 minutes using a DC fast-charger.

Two M packages alter the sedan’s styling: the M Sport package adds aerodynamic elements, blacked-out trim, M Sport brakes with blue metallic calipers, and a unique light signature, while the M Sport Package Professional darkens the grille glow, increases wheel size to 21 inches, and smokes the crystal headlights. Pricing for the tested models includes a starting price of $126,250 for the i7 60 (sampled vehicle priced at $150,700) and a starting price of $101,350 for the 740 (sampled vehicle priced at $139,000).

Both the 740 and i7 60 feature a standard air suspension, adaptive dampers, and rear-wheel steering. Braking hardware consists of four-piston front calipers with ventilated front discs and single-piston floating calipers in the rear. The i7 60 offers superior pedal feel with three brake energy recuperation settings and an adaptive braking mode.
