Danish tire recycler Genan has finalized a deal to acquire a tire recycling plant in Weiden, Germany, from ATU Group as part of its European expansion strategy. The facility, located in southeastern Germany, has an annual processing capacity of 45 kilotonnes of end-of-life tires. The acquisition includes a long-term supply agreement for used tires collected through ATU’s workshop network, ensuring a steady feedstock for the plant. Genan currently operates six tire recycling plants across Denmark, Germany, Portugal, and the US, with a combined annual capacity exceeding 400 kilotonnes. Group CEO Poul Steen Rasmussen emphasized the strategic importance of the move, stating that the acquisition aligns with Genan’s focus on markets with the greatest long-term potential. Rasmussen also highlighted the opportunity to modernize older European facilities with Genan’s advanced technology and industrial expertise. The company plans to invest a double-digit million euro sum to upgrade the Weiden plant over the next year. The deal strengthens Genan’s market presence and provides access to Central and Eastern European markets, while securing a reliable supply of end-of-life tires through the partnership with ATU.
