China’s BYD has just unveiled the Denza Z, an electric supercar that smashes into the segment with up to 1,971 horsepower, a tri-motor all-wheel-drive powertrain, and acceleration that obliterates the 0–62 mph barrier in as little as 1.7 seconds. The range-topping Special Edition tops the charts with more than 1,971 HP, while the standard Coupe and track-focused Racing models deliver 1,582 HP and 1,971 HP respectively. The tri-motor setup pairs one front motor with a dual-motor rear axle that spins up to 30,000 rpm, churning out a combined 1,180 kW (1,582 HP) and 914 lb-ft of torque. The Racing variant can sprint from 0–62 mph in 1.96 seconds and tops out at 217 mph, while the Coupe does the same sprint in 2.5 seconds and reaches 186 mph. The Special Edition pushes the envelope further, claiming a 0–62 mph time under 1.7 seconds. All variants ride on BYD’s e3 platform and use a trio of electric motors with active torque vectoring. The battery is a second-generation 76.0-kWh Blade unit with cell-to-body architecture, integrated directly into the chassis. Denza quotes a 10–97 % recharge in just nine minutes via its ultra-fast charging system, which can deliver up to 1,500 kW. The lineup includes Coupe, Spider, Racing, and Nürburgring-focused Special Edition body styles. The Coupe and Spider measure 188.4 inches long and stand 52.4–53.1 inches tall, while the Racing stretches to 192.0 inches. Curb weights range from 4,916 lb for the Coupe to 5,071 lb for the Spider. The cabin features an 8.9-inch digital instrument cluster, a 12.8-inch infotainment screen, and a wireless phone-charging pad, wrapped in carbon fiber, suede-like upholstery, and metallic accents. The Racing can be specified without rear seats and with a roll cage for hardcore track duty. Denza’s DiSus-M suspension mixes double wishbones up front with multi-link rear setups, air suspension on the Coupe and Spider, and coil springs on the Racing. All models use magnetorheological dampers and drilled carbon-ceramic brake rotors to shed unsprung weight. The Special Edition adds an active front diffuser and an adjustable three-stage carbon-fiber rear wing, generating up to 4,409 lb of downforce at 186 mph. The Z debuted at the 2026 Goodwood Festival of Speed and is headed for production, with a European launch confirmed.
