Cardo Mesh Boost Update Doubles Packtalk Group Size to 31 Riders

Cardo Systems has rolled out Mesh Boost, a free over-the-air software update that more than doubles the maximum group size for its Packtalk intercom systems from 15 to 31 riders. The update introduces two new features: Public Mesh and Remote Grouping.

Public Mesh allows riders to spontaneously communicate with nearby Cardo users they haven’t previously paired with, ideal for impromptu group formations like rallies or poker runs. Remote Grouping lets one rider create a link via the Cardo Connect app and send it to others, enabling automatic mesh joining when they come within range—no manual pairing required at the meeting point.

Mesh Boost is compatible with all second-generation Dynamic Mesh Communication (DMC) units, including the Packtalk Pro, Packtalk Edge, and Packtalk Neo. Older first-generation DMC Packtalk units can still communicate with Mesh Boost-equipped riders but won’t gain Public Mesh or Remote Grouping features.

Cardo emphasizes that mesh networks differ fundamentally from Bluetooth intercoms: every headset acts as a node, relaying audio through multiple riders to maintain connectivity even if one drops out. The company claims a range of about a mile between any two units and up to five miles across a full group.

Cardo positions its 31-rider group as the largest in the industry, surpassing Sena’s Group Mesh, which maxes out at 24 riders. Sena’s Open Mesh channels, while unlimited in user count, are open to all nearby riders rather than private groups.

Cardo Chief Marketing Officer Dan Emodi stated that Mesh Boost prioritizes reliability over speed to market, noting that development took longer than planned. Two previously announced features, Private Chat+ and Cellular Intercom, remain in development with no release date set.

Notably, Harley-Davidson and Schuberth SC-Edge units are excluded from this update but are expected to receive Mesh Boost in Q4 of this year.
