Toyota’s 2027 GR86 rolls out with a handful of focused enhancements designed to sharpen the coupe’s sporty edge without a full redesign.

The biggest visual change is a new exterior paint color called Thunder, a solid gray finish that adds a touch of stealth to the GR86’s aggressive stance.
Inside, buyers can now snag a striking Cockpit Red interior package featuring black Ultrasuede seats with red leather side bolsters, matching red door accents, and floor mats.
The Premium trim gets a subtle cabin refresh with cast iron black finishes on switches, knobs, and the shifter for a more cohesive look.
Under the hood, the familiar 2.4-liter boxer four-cylinder engine returns, pumping out 228 hp (170 kW / 231 PS) and 184 lb-ft (249 Nm) of torque.

While power figures remain unchanged, Toyota tweaked the throttle calibration to deliver a smoother, more linear throttle response.

The six-speed manual transmission benefits from a refined shifter interlock between 4th and 5th gears—widened by about 0.02 inches—to improve downshift feel during spirited driving.

The six-speed automatic transmission also gets attention, with engineers enhancing its shift logic for crisper downshifts.
Safety tech gets a modest upgrade too, with a monocular camera added to detect nearby objects at intersections, while the stereo camera’s recognition range nearly doubles to improve cruise control’s ability to spot vehicles ahead. The 2027 GR86 will hit dealerships this summer, with pricing to be announced closer to launch. It will be offered in base and Premium trims, and the outgoing Yuzu Edition will not return.
