AMG Won’t Reveal When Its V8 Returns, But You Should Stay Tuned

After years of downsizing engines, Mercedes-AMG is reversing its plan with a reworked twin-turbo V8. The new engine will debut in the limited-run Mercedes-AMG CLE Mythos and is also set to feature in the regular CLE and AMG G63. An inline-six engine will also be introduced alongside the V8-powered models. Mercedes-AMG is returning to its roots with the V8, which has been heavily reworked to be Euro 7 compliant. The brand’s board member, Mathias Geisen, stated that enthusiasts should “stay tuned” to see when AMG will release the engine, as the company is taking a step-by-step approach to ensure the V8 is “nice and sophisticated”. The Mercedes-AMG CLE 63 is expected to be one of the first models to feature the new V8, with a possible output of 577 HP and 590 lb-ft (799 Nm) of torque. Other AMG models, including the C-Class, are also tipped to receive the engine, with the current C 43 potentially giving way to an inline-six C 53 and a V8-powered C 63.
