America’s New 700-HP British Supercar Weighs Less Than a Miata

Peregryn Automotive is bringing Ultima Cars’ production to the U.S., launching two new supercars: the GT-S and the track-focused GT-R. Both models will be fully assembled in America, marking a shift from Ultima’s traditional kit-car roots. The GT-R steals the spotlight with a claimed 700 horsepower, a 2.2-second 0-60 mph sprint, and a dry weight of just 2,100 pounds—lighter than a Mazda MX-5 Miata. Under the hood, it packs a Chevrolet LS or LT-series V8, offering access to a vast performance aftermarket while keeping repair costs manageable compared to exotic engines. The GT-R’s carbon-fiber aero package generates over 1,200 pounds of downforce, and its AP Racing brakes haul it from 100 mph to a stop in 3.6 seconds. The sequential gearbox and race electronics further cement its track-focused credentials. The GT-S, the more road-oriented sibling, delivers over 500 horsepower, a top speed of 200 mph, and a choice between digital or analog dashboards. Peregryn estimates pricing to start around $195,000 for both models, positioning them in the same ballpark as a Corvette ZR1. First deliveries are slated for spring 2027, with production ramping up in March 2027. Peregryn’s leadership, including Chris Eby and Mike Ellis, acquired Ultima’s intellectual property, rights, and tooling to bring this project to life. The move aims to simplify the process of owning an Ultima, traditionally a kit-car experience, while delivering a no-compromises supercar that’s as practical as it is thrilling.
