2027 Triumph Moto2 Engine: More Power, New Capacity

Triumph Motorcycles has rolled out a heavily revised race engine for the Moto2 World Championship, set to debut in 2027. This marks the most sweeping technical update to the British brand’s control engine package since it replaced Honda as the series’ sole supplier in 2019. The new powerplant is based on Triumph’s proven 765cc inline-triple architecture but introduces major internal revisions, including a brand-new cylinder head with redesigned intake ports, a revised combustion chamber, and a low-inertia valvetrain. Engineers also overhauled the crankcases and internal components to handle increased loads while shaving 4.4 pounds (2 kg) off the engine’s weight.

Triumph confirms the revised engine delivers approximately 6% more peak power than the current Moto2 unit, though the exact figures remain under wraps. The manufacturer has also confirmed a change in displacement, with further technical details to follow. The current Moto2 engine produces over 138 horsepower in race trim, suggesting the new unit could approach around 146 horsepower based on the 6% increase, though Triumph has not disclosed peak torque or maximum engine speed. Track testing of the 2027 Triumph Moto2 engine is slated to begin in the coming months, ahead of its competitive debut.

The engine’s development has been shaped by over a million competition miles (1,196,843 miles) logged since Triumph took over in 2019, along with extensive rider feedback. While the race-spec engine shares its three-cylinder roots with the Street Triple 765 platform, Triumph hints that future production versions of the Street Triple may also see displacement changes aligned with the Moto2 race engine’s evolution. Beyond the engine itself, the update is so substantial that every Moto2 chassis manufacturer—Kalex Engineering, Boscoscuro, and Forward—will need to develop entirely new chassis for 2027. The revised mounting points and different intake layout necessitate these changes, with private testing already underway in collaboration with the constructors. Triumph has also reaffirmed its commitment to the Moto2 World Championship through the 2029 season.
