Toyota’s decision to kill off the GR Supra coupe has backfired spectacularly. Instead of fading into obscurity, the outgoing sports car is selling faster than ever, with US deliveries surging 71.9 percent in the first six months of 2026 compared to the same period last year. Toyota delivered 2,116 Supras from January to June 2026, up from 1,231 units in the first half of 2025. June alone saw a 45.8 percent jump to 449 cars sold. Production at the Graz, Austria plant ended this spring, turning the GR Supra into a limited-edition collector’s item overnight.

Buyers are snapping up the remaining stock before it’s gone for good. The GR86, the Supra’s cheaper and still-in-production sibling, is suffering the opposite fate. Despite being more affordable and available to order with any spec, the GR86’s sales are down 26.2 percent year-to-date to 4,007 units. June sales slipped another 6.8 percent to 754 cars. Toyota’s broader lineup tells a mixed story.

The brand posted an 11.2 percent gain in June and is up 1.5 percent year-to-date. Electrified vehicles accounted for over 57 percent of all Toyota Motor North America (TMNA) sales in June. The Highlander Hybrid led the charge with a 48.9 percent year-to-date surge, while the 4Runner rocketed 141 percent. The Camry remains on a roll with a 15.3 percent gain. On the flip side, the Prius is down 42.3 percent year-to-date despite a 9.4 percent June bump, the non-hybrid RAV4 has fallen 35.7 percent due to constrained availability, and the Land Cruiser is down 40 percent. Lexus posted a record June but is down 5.2 percent year-to-date.
