To celebrate the 250th anniversary of America’s founding, Junkyard Digs on YouTube has created a unique project – a 1979 Ford Mustang, the first year of the Fox Body Mustang, painted like an American flag. The car was purchased on Facebook Marketplace for $1,000 and came with 47 years’ worth of rust and questionable repairs.
Despite its condition, the car features a 351 Windsor V8 engine, which is perfect for burnouts. The team focused on the car’s appearance, painting an American flag into the egg-crate grill, and managed to get the car ready for a car show and burnout competition in just 48 hours.

Although the car’s mechanicals were not fully addressed, the team did weld the rear end to improve its performance. The car attracted a lot of attention at the car show and was able to perform a respectable burnout, despite some issues with the axle and clutch. The project is a celebration of American muscle and the spirit of ‘Murica!
