While the price is tempting for budget-conscious buyers eager to ditch gas pumps, experts warn that a sub-$20K Model X is a risky gamble that most families shouldn’t take.

The Model X was originally a $100,000 luxury EV when new, and its falcon-wing doors—once a headline-grabbing feature—now pose serious reliability concerns as they age. Consumer Reports’ long-term test of a Model X 90D highlighted persistent issues: rear doors that frequently pause or stop, second-row seats that can’t fold for extra cargo space, excessive wind noise, and a windshield that isn’t tinted enough to block glare.
