The second-generation Range Rover Velar is expected to arrive in the next six months, featuring EV and hybrid powertrains, and a more sedan-like design with no rear window. The new Velar will be the first Land Rover product to utilize the company’s modular longitudinal architecture (MLA) platform, which was initially planned for electric vehicles only but will also support hybrid powertrains.
The MLA platform is rumored to feature an 800-volt architecture, enabling fast charging capabilities. The new design, one of the last models penned by former Jaguar Land Rover chief creative officer Gerry McGovern, will have a heavily raked rear end, similar to a Coupe SUV like the BMW X4, and will rely on a camera for rear visibility, similar to the Jaguar Type 01 and Polestar 4.

The current Velar, which has remained largely unchanged since its debut in 2017, is expected to undergo significant changes, including the adoption of a more car-like appearance. The new Velar will be available with both hybrid and EV powertrains, although it is unclear if both options will be available in the United States.
Following the launch of the Velar, the MLA platform is expected to spawn the long-awaited ‘baby Defender’ model, which will also feature hybrid and EV variants.
