Land Rover Recalls 250,857 SUVs Over Faulty Airbags

Land Rover has launched a massive recall affecting 250,857 SUVs due to a critical airbag defect that could prevent deployment during a crash. The recall covers the Range Rover, Defender, and Discovery models spanning multiple model years. Specifically, the affected vehicles include 2022–2026 Range Rover, 2021–2026 Discovery, and 2020–2026 Defender models.

The issue stems from a driver-side airbag connector that may develop fretting corrosion over time, increasing electrical resistance and potentially causing the airbag to fail when needed. Land Rover’s investigation began in August 2025 after a spike in warranty claims tied to the airbag warning light. By November 2025, engineers identified oxides on returned clockspring connectors, and further testing in March 2026 confirmed that normal vehicle articulation could induce corrosion.

The fix involves applying a specialized gel to the airbag connector terminals—no parts will be replaced. Land Rover has reported no incidents of non-deployment, injuries, accidents, or fires related to this issue in the US. The automaker warns that an illuminated airbag warning lamp will appear at least 300–400 miles before a potential failure, signaling owners to seek immediate service.

This recall underscores the importance of addressing safety-critical systems promptly, even when no failures have been reported.
