The Ford Bronco Raptor is a seriously impressive performance off-roader, but all that pace and capability comes at a price: $82,685, to be specific, and that’s before options. Since the basic Bronco is more than enough trail-readiness for the average buyer, that leaves some wanting the power of a “Braptor” without a need for the massive Fox shocks and other saurian bits. Ford may not be willing to sell exactly that package, but it now has those buyers covered with the next best thing.
Starting in the 2027 model year, Ford will offer the Bronco Raptor’s 3.0-liter twin-turbo V-6 as an option for Outer Banks, Badlands, and Heritage Edition trim levels of Bronco. This version of the engine is slightly detuned, offering 380 horsepower rather than the Raptor’s 414 HP, but it still adds some serious pace to more basic Broncos that previously saw max output come in the form of a turbocharged 2.7-liter V-6 making 330 HP and 414 pound-feet of torque (versus the 440 lb-ft of the new engine). Buyers hoping to get a manual with that much force behind it will be disappointed, though; the Raptor V-6 can be had only with the 10-speed automatic transmission.
This update comes after Ford previously announced plans to inject the Raptor V-6 into another spot in the Bronco lineup, powering the new luxury-focused Bronco Filson. That variant also gets a model-specific tune for the V-6, meaning that the Bronco Raptor remains the highest-performance version of the mid-sized adventuring SUV that Ford has built to date. Since the company claims that it has no plans for a Bronco Raptor R, that should mean the basic Bronco Raptor will remain the king of the lineup.
While the more powerful engine in more pedestrian Raptors is likely to be a bigger hit with buyers than a Bronco with basic power and more capability, Ford does offer the latter, too. That package is the Bronco RTR, a four-cylinder variant with Raptor-like upgrades that should allow enthusiasts to get their hands on something resembling the ridiculous abilities of a Bronco Raptor without paying the Corvette-like cost required to get into that model.
