Ford is rolling out a new Sinister Package for the 2027 Explorer ST, dialing up the dark aesthetic on the brand’s performance-oriented three-row SUV. The package is already available to order and adds a near-total blackout treatment to the ST trim, which accounted for nearly 22% of all Explorer sales in the 2025 model year. The sixth-generation Explorer, introduced in early 2019, is aging but remains a sales powerhouse—America’s best-selling three-row SUV in 2024 with demand up 14.7% to 222,706 units. The facelifted 2025 model helped sustain that momentum. The Sinister Package brings 21-inch gloss-black wheels wrapped in all-season rubber, dark-outlined ST badges, and red brake calipers for contrast. Amber daytime running lights add a subtle pop of color, while the front Blue Oval logo now lights up as a new 2027 feature. Under the hood, the Explorer ST keeps its twin-turbo 3.0-liter EcoBoost V6, still rated at 385 horsepower and 415 pound-feet of torque, paired to a 10-speed automatic and available with rear-wheel or all-wheel drive. The package adds a $1,695 premium to the 2027 Explorer ST, but buyers aren’t locked into any specific paint color—the full Explorer palette remains available. Ford is also reviving the Explorer ST Experience, a one-day professional driving instruction program for 2026 and 2027 model-year ST owners, launching this fall. The Explorer name is used globally, but note: in Europe the model is a fully electric SUV based on the Volkswagen ID.4.
