Joby Aviation and Toyota Motor Corporation have announced the initial phase of their strategic manufacturing alliance, aiming to realize air mobility for all. The alliance will combine Joby’s expertise in electric aviation with Toyota’s production systems and operational excellence. The joint venture will focus on establishing commercial production capability, advancing manufacturing excellence, and preparing for the scale-up of electric air taxi production. Joby Aviation’s founder and CEO, JoeBen Bevirt, stated that Toyota has been a valuable partner for nearly a decade, providing guidance and support in building the foundation for manufacturing aircraft. Akio Toyoda, Chairman of Toyota Motor Corporation, commented that air mobility is a natural extension of the company’s philosophy of providing mobility for all. The alliance will support the expansion of Joby’s production capacity to meet anticipated growth in demand for its electric vertical take-off and landing (eVTOL) aircraft. Joby Aviation is a California-based transportation company developing an all-electric, vertical take-off and landing air taxi, while Toyota is committed to advancing sustainable, next-generation mobility through its Toyota and Lexus brands. The companies will work closely together through the joint venture, leveraging their respective strengths to bring air mobility to society on a broader scale.
