Volkswagen is actively developing a mid-life update for the Virtus sedan, with dealer sources indicating a launch date in December 2026, shifting from earlier festive-season expectations. Its sibling, the Skoda Slavia, received a mid-life update earlier this month. The Virtus facelift brings exterior updates focused primarily on the front fascia and rear profile. Changes include a revised front grille and lighting setup, likely featuring a full-width LED light strip integrated with an illuminated Volkswagen logo, alongside a sharper bumper design similar to updates seen on the Taigun facelift.

The side profile remains largely unchanged, save for new alloy wheel designs and potential new colour options, while retaining its traditional door handles and distinctive character line. The rear end receives refreshed tail lamps, a possible illuminated logo, and bumper variations. Inside, the cabin receives a fresh theme and updated upholstery. While the 10.1-inch touchscreen infotainment system carries over, it may feature a new UI/UX format.

The existing 8-inch digital instrument cluster is expected to be upgraded to a new 10.25-unit. The sedan already includes ventilated front seats with leather inserts, electrically adjustable front seats, electrically adjustable and foldable ORVMs, an 8-speaker audio system, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, Type-C data and charging ports, automatic AC, rear AC vents, ambient lighting, and leatherette seats, plus Volkswagen’s connectivity suite offering live tracking, geo fence, time fence, safety alerts, and driving behaviour assessment. Safety equipment, which currently includes 6 airbags, electronic stability control, multi-collision braking, hill start assist, rear parking sensors, a rearview camera, and a tyre pressure monitoring system (TPMS), could be further enhanced with a 360-degree camera setup. Under the hood, powertrain options remain the 1.0-litre turbo petrol and 1.5-litre turbo petrol engines.
The 1.0-litre engine, generating 115 PS and 178 Nm of torque, drops its older 6-speed automatic transmission in favour of a new 8-speed torque converter automatic, while the 6-speed manual transmission carries over. The 1.5-litre turbo petrol variants continue to generate 150 PS and 250 Nm of torque, mated to either a 6-speed manual or a 7-speed DSG transmission. Pricing for the updated sedan may see a slight hike, though the base variant could retain its initial pricing. The current model ranges from Rs 10.71 lakh to Rs 18.85 lakh, with the range-topping Virtus Sport priced at Rs 19.20 lakh.
