Tata Motors is reportedly developing a new electric vehicle under the codename Kuno, designed to directly target the MG Windsor EV in the midsize segment. While Tata currently dominates the sub-4 meter EV category with models like the Tiago EV, Punch EV, and Nexon EV, the Kuno aims to capture market share in the segment above. Expected to launch between 2027 and 2028, the Kuno will slot into Tata’s lineup between the next-generation Nexon EV (codenamed Garud) and the Sierra EV.
The vehicle is projected to measure approximately 4.3 meters in length, closely matching the 4,295 mm Windsor EV, and will sit between the 3,995 mm Nexon EV and 4,340 mm Sierra EV. Built on Tata’s Acti.EV architecture, the Kuno will benefit from a flat floor design and a space-saving battery layout, promising a spacious cabin tailored for family-oriented buyers. The platform supports multiple powertrain setups, including FWD, RWD, and AWD configurations.
Although specific battery and motor details for the Kuno are not yet available, it is expected to target performance figures superior to its primary rival. For comparison, the Windsor EV Pro utilizes a 52.9 kWh battery pack with a 449 km range, an electric motor outputting 136 PS and 200 Nm of torque, and 60 kW fast charging that handles a 20% to 80% charge in 50 minutes. Alternatively, the Kuno may borrow battery packs and motor options from the Curvv EV—which features a 55 kWh battery, 502 km range, and 167 PS with 215 Nm—or the Sierra EV, which offers 63 kWh and 75 kWh battery options, certified ranges up to 535 km and 665 km, single-motor RWD outputs ranging from 209 to 238 PS with 315 Nm, and dual-motor AWD variants generating 349 PS and 504 Nm of torque.

Production is slated for Tata’s Sanand plant in Gujarat, with target production capacities estimated between 80,000 and 100,000 units annually. The Kuno EV will carry a competitive price tag and may also feature a Battery-as-a-Service (BaaS) option to rival the MG Windsor EV.
