Florida Polytechnic University has taken delivery of a $148,000 electric vertical takeoff and landing (eVTOL) craft, nicknamed Astro, which can carry a human pilot.

The university plans to use the Jetson One for search and rescue missions, as well as for students to gather data and gain hands-on experience with emerging flight technology.
The aircraft has a maximum flying time of 20 minutes and a top speed of 63 mph, but it still needs Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) approval for official use.
The FAA’s current regulations restrict ultralight aircraft like the Jetson One from flying over congested areas and at night, but the university is seeking an exemption.
