For decades, Alpina operated independently of BMW while maintaining a close relationship to build iconic BMW-based models. Now fully owned by BMW, Alpina is hard at work on its first vehicle under the new corporate umbrella, based on the updated 7-Series. Fresh spy shots captured near BMW’s test center at the Nürburgring reveal how the upcoming luxury sedan will distinguish itself from the standard 7-Series.

At the front, the prototype sports unique amber LED daytime running lights. While production status is not yet confirmed, this feature echoes the Vision Alpina concept previewed in May, suggesting amber DRLs could become a signature styling cue for future Alpina models. Further front-end revisions include large kidney grilles featuring just three horizontal slats, compared to the seven found on the base 7-Series, alongside a unique lower bumper and bottom air intake. The prototype rolls on black wheels with silver elements, though production models are expected to swap these for traditional, tightly-spoked Alpina wheels. At the rear, modifications are more subtle, highlighted by Alpina’s familiar oval-shaped tailpipes and a potentially revised rear bumper.
Under the hood, the sedan is expected to feature a powerful V8. Alpina’s previous 7-Series-based B7, produced between 2016 and 2022, utilized a twin-turbocharged 4.4-liter V8 delivering 600 horsepower. BMW recently unveiled the new M760 xDrive in the U.S. with a twin-turbo 4.4-liter V8 producing around 570 HP and standard all-wheel drive. The upcoming Alpina is likely based on this platform, utilizing the same basic engine tuned for higher outputs of horsepower and torque. Beyond raw performance, the new model is expected to carry on Alpina’s tradition of blending dynamic, sporty handling with supreme comfort and poise.
BMW has not yet confirmed an official launch date, but the new Alpina 7-Series is expected to debut next year. Additionally, BMW confirmed earlier this year that Alpina will launch its own version of the next-generation X7, tipped for a 2027 release.
