Maruti Suzuki has begun testing the refreshed Fronx, with a heavily camouflaged prototype spotted revealing a revised grille, updated rear disc brakes, and Baleno-inspired equipment upgrades alongside a new three-cylinder petrol engine. The updated crossover is expected to debut in the coming months, likely at the Bharat Auto Expo in February 2027. While launch dates are unannounced, the current Fronx is priced from Rs 6.9 lakh to Rs 12 lakh ex-showroom, and the facelift is expected to retain a similar price positioning, though added equipment could bump prices on select variants.

The test vehicle keeps the familiar Fronx silhouette and split-lighting arrangement, featuring slim upper lighting units and separate lower headlamps. Openings in the camouflage show a revised grille pattern with a concealed central section that could house an ADAS radar module, similar to the updated Baleno. Potential safety functions include adaptive cruise control, autonomous emergency braking, lane-keeping assistance, and high-beam assistance. Minor front and rear bumper changes are also likely, while the sloping roofline, rear spoiler, and body proportions remain unchanged, and the tail lamps stay partially covered.

A notable hardware upgrade on the test mule is the apparent addition of rear disc brakes, whereas the current India-spec Fronx uses front discs and rear drums across the lineup. Cabin details are not fully visible, but the Baleno facelift points to potential upgrades including ventilated front seats, wireless charging with cooling, revised upholstery, and an upgraded audio system.

Mechanically, the biggest expected change is the swap from the current 1.2-litre four-cylinder K-Series petrol engine to the newer 1.2-litre three-cylinder Z-Series unit. Maruti previously rolled out this engine in the fourth-generation Swift in May 2024, the Dzire in November 2024, the Baleno facelift in September 2026, and Toyota’s updated Glanza in October. For reference, the updated Glanza’s Z12E engine churns out approximately 83 PS and 112.4 Nm. The current Fronx also offers a separate 1.0-litre turbo-petrol engine.

The refresh lands as the Fronx posts strong domestic and export volumes, ranking sixth among India’s best-selling cars between April and September 2026 with 1,10,135 units sold—a 43.40% year-on-year jump—while also topping India’s car export charts during that period with 46,147 units. The current range spans Sigma, Delta, Delta+, Zeta, and Alpha trims with petrol manual, AMT, turbo-petrol automatic, and CNG choices. Toyota’s Urban Cruiser Taisor is expected to receive matching updates subsequently, following the Baleno-Glanza sequence.
