To verify KBB’s estimate, we scoured the used-car market and found a mixed picture. On Cars.com, five 2021 Maybach S580s were listed, with the lowest-priced example—a 57,190-mile model—tagged at $99,970. The next three ranged from $123,000 to $140,000, while the highest-priced unit sat at $140,000. CarGurus showed nine listings, with the cheapest at $123,000 and the most expensive—a 6,327-mile example—listed for $142,229. Classic.com, however, showed outliers as high as $209,900. Averaging the four Cars.com listings gives a mean price of $124,232.50, which translates to a 33.19% depreciation over five years—close to KBB’s 34.4% figure. CarGurus’ average suggests a 30.7% drop, though neither figure accounts for optional equipment that could add tens of thousands to the price.

How does the Maybach S580’s depreciation compare to the standard S580? Data from KBB shows the regular S580 has fared worse. The 2021 Mercedes-Benz S580 launched at $117,350 and now sits at an average resale value of $58,300, a 50% drop—15.92 percentage points more than the Maybach. CarEdge’s estimate is similar, pegging the S580’s five-year depreciation at 47%. The Maybach’s stronger resale performance likely stems from its exclusivity and badge appeal. The standard S-Class is produced in far greater volumes, with 37 units of the 2021 S580 listed on CarGurus versus just nine Maybach S580s—a clear reflection of supply and demand dynamics in the ultra-luxury segment.
