Ford has started teasing its new compact electric pickup truck, which is expected to launch next year with a starting price of around $30,000. The truck, potentially dubbed Ranchero, will be similar in size to the old Ford Ranger and will feature a simplified platform and innovative production process. The vehicle has been spotted undergoing winter testing in Northern Michigan, where its stability and traction control systems, as well as its electronic power-assisted steering, are being perfected. The truck’s design is notable for its short hood, made possible by the electric powertrain, and steeply raked windshield, which aids in aerodynamics. The compact pickup will be equipped with a lithium-iron phosphate battery pack. Ford has launched a website for the new model, which includes three videos providing a behind-the-scenes look at the truck’s development and testing. Despite cutting investments in new EVs due to weak demand and shifting policies, Ford remains committed to this truck and the Universal EV platform that underpins it.
