Continental breaks ground on $76m logistics facility in US

Continental has broken ground on a new “highly automated” finished-goods warehouse at its Mount Vernon tire plant in Jefferson County, Illinois, marking a $76 million investment (€64 million) to expand its North American logistics capabilities. The facility, announced in May, is slated to begin operations in 2027 and will store up to 500,000 passenger car tires, according to state representative Dave Severin’s 21 August social media post. The Mount Vernon plant, Continental’s largest tire manufacturing site in the US, has been operational for over 50 years and was acquired by the German group in 1987. It produces passenger car, light truck, and commercial vehicle tires with an annual capacity of approximately 11.4 million units. The new logistics hub is part of Continental’s broader push to modernize its manufacturing and distribution network through automation and digitalization, which includes 19 plants across 16 countries. The project underscores the company’s commitment to improving regional demand fulfillment and customer service levels in North America.
