BMW and SOLARWATT are set to launch a joint offering that integrates upcoming Neue Klasse electric vehicles into home energy networks. Announced following an expanded collaboration on smart energy and home charging solutions, the system positions the EV as an active part of the home energy ecosystem, functioning as an additional energy storage unit. This integration is achieved through the BMW Wallbox Professional and SOLARWATT’s Home Energy Management System (HEMS), known as the SOLARWATT Manager.
The offering, detailed at The Smarter E / Intersolar Europe 2026 trade fair in Munich from June 23-25, 2026, will be available in Germany, Austria, and the Netherlands starting in late 2026. The exhibition is a major event for the solar industry and energy management.

Beyond traditional Vehicle-to-Home (V2H) capabilities, which allow energy stored in the vehicle to be used at home via the BMW Wallbox Professional, the HEMS integration optimizes energy flows across the entire home. This means the photovoltaic system, home battery, electric vehicle, and other household consumers are intelligently coordinated. The SOLARWATT Manager proactively manages these energy flows based on individual usage patterns. It prioritizes charging of stationary home storage systems and integrates the electric vehicle as supplementary storage. The system can also leverage solar forecasts for proactive energy planning and utilize dynamic electricity tariffs to charge the home storage or vehicle during off-peak, low-cost periods, subsequently supplying the household in a cost-optimized manner. This approach aims to increase solar power self-consumption and significantly reduce overall household energy costs, distinguishing it from Vehicle-to-Grid (V2G) by keeping electricity within the home.
Key prerequisites for this enhanced home energy system optimization include a Neue Klasse vehicle, the bidirectional BMW Wallbox Professional, and the SOLARWATT Manager. Users can configure settings via the My BMW App and the SOLARWATT Home app. The My BMW App allows users to set charging targets and departure times, while the SOLARWATT Home app enables the definition of household priorities for appliances and storage systems, ensuring intelligent energy distribution and maximizing solar power utilization.

Orders for the BMW Wallbox Professional, which can also be ordered through SOLARWATT, are scheduled to begin at The Smarter E / Intersolar Europe 2026, with deliveries expected from Q4 2026. The SOLARWATT Manager can be retrofitted into existing installations. Customers will receive an integrated package coordinated by SOLARWATT, which also allows for flexible combination of individual components. The offering will also be promoted through BMW’s digital channels.

BMW and SOLARWATT have a longstanding collaboration in electromobility and home storage dating back to 2013. This new integrated offering represents a significant expansion of their partnership, contributing to a connected home energy ecosystem. A press talk detailing the specific product aspects is scheduled for June 23 at 3 pm during the trade fair.
