Waymo, Alphabet Inc.’s autonomous ride-hailing unit, has rolled out Waymo Premier, a $30 per month invite-only membership program designed for its most frequent users. The program offers priority pickups, 10% cash back on every trip in the form of ride credits, early access to new city launches, and up to five free cancellations per month. The cash-back rate may increase during peak demand periods.
Initially, Waymo is sending invites to “tens of thousands” of qualifying riders in San Francisco, Los Angeles, and Phoenix via the app and email. The company plans to expand the membership to additional cities where its service is available. The program targets heavy users who could offset the $30 monthly fee with just four weekly rides, based on Bloomberg’s calculations tied to a median San Francisco Bay Area fare of $17.25 at the end of 2025.
Waymo Premier is part of the company’s strategy to monetize its high-cost autonomous technology while scaling its operations. As of March, Waymo reported doubling its weekly paid rides to about 500,000 across 10 U.S. cities in less than a year, reinforcing its leadership in the domestic autonomous ride-hailing market. The membership program underscores Waymo’s push to lock in loyal customers as it expands both domestically and globally in 2026.
