The 2026 Mazda CX-30 Turbo Premium Plus proves that a subcompact crossover can punch well above its weight class—and do it for a fraction of the price of a Porsche Macan. Priced at $40,730 for the test car (including $1,495 destination charge, $165 cargo cover, $575 illuminated door sill plates, and $595 Soul Red Crystal Metallic paint), the CX-30 Turbo Premium Plus undercuts the base Porsche Macan by nearly $30,000 while delivering a driving experience that feels eerily similar to the German SUV.

That’s not hyperbole—it’s a genuine Porsche Macan dupe, and Mazda’s latest updates only sharpen the act. The CX-30 Turbo Premium Plus starts at $39,395, with the base S trim beginning at $27,470 and the Turbo Aire Edition kicking off at $35,905.

Despite its premium positioning, the CX-30 Turbo competes on paper with budget crossovers like the Toyota Corolla Cross, Honda HR-V, Subaru Crosstrek, Chevrolet Trax, Hyundai Kona, and Nissan Kicks—but in reality, it behaves like a luxury subcompact crossover, rubbing shoulders with the BMW X1, Audi Q3, Mercedes-Benz GLA, and Volvo XC40. The turbocharged 2.5-liter inline-four engine churns out 250 horsepower and 320 pound-feet of torque, while the naturally aspirated base engine serves up 186 hp and 186 lb-ft.

The CX-30 rides on a 6-speed automatic with steering-wheel paddle shifters, and all models come standard with all-wheel drive, Mazda’s G-Vectoring Control Plus, and Off-Road Traction Assist. For 2026, Mazda has upgraded the dampers and added a brake-based limited-slip differential to improve traction and stability.

The CX-30 Turbo’s curb weight is 3,527 pounds, aligning it with peers in the segment. Behind the wheel, the CX-30 Turbo shines.

The powertrain delivers immediate torque, the six-speed automatic shifts with precision, and the exhaust note is music to enthusiast ears. The chassis is responsive, turning in sharply with minimal body roll, and the steering feels linear and cohesive—no guesswork required when modulating throttle.

On the highway or in city traffic, the CX-30 impresses with a plush ride and a whisper-quiet cabin. The interior leans into dark, upscale vibes, but the real star is the armrests: thick, squishy foam tops both the center console and door armrests, offering a level of comfort that feels genuinely luxurious.

The head-up display is simple and effective, though it jiggles noticeably over rough pavement. Mazda’s push upmarket is evident here, and the CX-30 Turbo Premium Plus stands as a compelling alternative to the base Porsche Macan.

It’s not just about the price—it’s about the driving experience, the refinement, and the way it makes everyday commutes feel special. Six years after its debut, the CX-30 Turbo hasn’t lost its magic.

If you’re looking for a subcompact crossover that punches like a luxury SUV but costs a fraction of the price, the Mazda CX-30 Turbo Premium Plus is still the one to beat.
