Hunter Lawrence left Budds Creek Motocross Park in Mechanicsville, Maryland, with a razor-thin one-point lead over his brother Jett Lawrence in the 2026 AMA Pro Motocross Championship Series after the penultimate round.

The 2026 Budds Creek National delivered a muddy, sloppy track that scrambled the results, but Hunter’s 1-1 moto scores gave him 50 points and the overall win, while Jett’s 5-2 day left him stuck in fourth overall with 39 points.

Jorge Prado’s 3-3 finish earned him second overall at 40 points, edging out Haiden Deegan’s 2-4 tiebreaker for third.

Jett’s poor starts in both motos—including an 18th-place opening lap in Moto 1—cost him dearly, and he never recovered despite a late charge in Moto 2 that nearly stole the lead from Prado.

Deegan grabbed the holeshot in Moto 1 but was quickly overtaken by Hunter, who led every lap except the first.

The track’s muddy conditions turned the race into a lottery, with inconsistent results across the field.

Aaron Plessinger and Justin Barcia swapped P10/P7 finishes between motos, while Eli Tomac’s 4-13 and Dylan Ferrandis’ 14-8 showed the volatility of the conditions. Mitchell Harrison was involved in the final-lap battle between Jett and Prado, finishing 13-19.

The championship now heads to the final round at Ironman Raceway in Crawfordsville, Indiana, on August 29, where Hunter holds a one-point cushion.

A 1-2 or 2-1 day for Hunter would clinch the title, while Jett would need to win both motos to overcome the deficit. Hunter also holds the tiebreaker with 12 moto wins to Jett’s eight.

The Budds Creek National results and standings reflect the unpredictable nature of motocross, where a single slip or poor start can derail a championship push.

With the series finale looming, the Lawrence brothers are set for a showdown that could crown Hunter as the 2026 AMA Pro Motocross champion.
