Mercedes-Benz adds cheaper GLC Electric variants with smaller battery and lower range

Mercedes-Benz is expanding its all-electric GLC lineup with two new, more affordable variants: the GLC 250 Electric and the GLC 300 4Matic Electric.

Both models feature a reduced 85 kWh battery pack and lower charging capacity compared to the flagship GLC 400 4Matic Electric, which debuted last autumn.

The entry-level GLC 250 Electric starts at €64,736 ($74,765) in Germany, undercutting the top model by €6,545 ($7,558).

It comes with a single rear-mounted electric motor producing 349 HP (260 kW / 354 PS) and 590 lb-ft (800 Nm) of torque, enabling a 0-62 mph (0-100 km/h) sprint in 5.9 seconds and a top speed of 130 mph (210 km/h).

The WLTP range is rated at up to 404 miles (650 km), a drop of 40 miles (65 km) versus the GLC 400 4Matic Electric, and DC fast charging is capped at 320 kW, allowing a 10-80% charge in as little as 22 minutes.

The GLC 300 4Matic Electric, priced from €68,306 ($78,894), adds an all-wheel-drive system with dual motors and 416 HP (310 kW / 421 PS) of output, cutting the 0-62 mph time to 4.7 seconds. However, its WLTP range drops further to 383 miles (616 km).

The GLC 400 4Matic Electric remains the range leader with a 94 kWh battery, 483 HP (360 kW / 489 PS) powertrain, and a WLTP range of up to 444 miles (715 km), hitting 62 mph (100 km/h) in 4.3 seconds.

While US availability has not been confirmed, the UK market will receive the GLC 250 Electric, where it is priced at £55,495.
