Buy a McLaren P1’s Body Panels Without the Hypercar

A set of original body panels from Michael Fux’s McLaren P1—removed when the hypercar was retrofitted with green carbon fiber—is now up for sale on Bring a Trailer. The panels, which once clad chassis #002 (the first customer-spec P1), include the full carbon-green bodywork and matching trim pieces. Fux sent his P1 back to McLaren’s Woking facility years ago to swap its standard carbon for exposed green carbon, leaving behind a complete spare set. While the panels themselves are a curiosity rather than a functional purchase, they represent a rare artifact from one of the most iconic hypercars of the 2010s. The McLaren P1, limited to just 375 units globally, remains a holy grail for collectors, with used examples typically trading between $1.5 million and $2 million. Fux’s car, chassis #002, originally sold new for $1.85 million at Monterey Car Week in 2016 after its green carbon conversion, but later resurfaced and ultimately fetched $1.87 million in September 2025. The panels were intentionally excluded from that auction, with Silver Arrow Cars opting to sell them separately in hopes of recouping some of the losses from the hypercar’s sale. For enthusiasts unable to land a P1, these spares offer a tangible piece of McLaren’s hybrid hypercar legacy—even if they’re little more than a conversation piece.
