US tire and automotive service giant Mavis Tire Express Services has finalized its $700 million (€614 million) cash acquisition of Pep Boys from Icahn Enterprises, adding nearly 800 locations to its network and bringing the total to 4,400 stores across the US and Canada. The deal significantly bolsters Mavis’s presence in the Western US, where Pep Boys operated extensively. Pep Boys will retain its brand identity under the Mavis family of brands, according to a 20 August statement. Mavis co-CEO Stephen Sorbaro emphasized the integration focus: “Our focus now turns to bringing our organizations together, supporting our technicians and store teams, and building on the strengths of both brands.” Icahn Enterprises retained ownership of Pep Boys’ real estate assets as well as the AAMCO Transmissions and Precision Tune Auto Care businesses. The transaction marks a major expansion for Mavis, which now operates one of the largest automotive service networks in North America.
