TPC Group to expand C4 processing capacity with debottlenecking push

US-based butadiene and C4 derivatives supplier TPC Group is ramping up a series of debottlenecking and optimization projects to lift its crude C4 processing capacity by 14% by the end of 2029. The near-term initiatives, slated for 2026, target existing assets to unlock incremental gains in throughput and operational flexibility. This year, TPC will complete debottlenecking of its hydrotreating units, boosting hydrotreating capacity by 19% and increasing downstream throughput while maintaining product quality, system balance, and operational reliability. Further improvements to the crude C4 butadiene extraction system are expected to deliver a 12% increase in butadiene production capacity by the end of 2029. Combined, these projects will cumulatively raise crude C4 processing capacity by 14% by 2029, strengthening TPC’s ability to process a wider range of feedstocks and adapt to shifting market demands. TPC is also advancing engineering for a subsequent expansion that would double hydrotreating capacity, positioning the platform for long-term growth. “Enhancing the scale and flexibility of our Crude C4 processing platform through near-term debottlenecking is a clear priority for TPC,” said Adrian Jacobsen, SVP Commercial. “These projects allow us to deliver meaningful capacity increases efficiently, while positioning the system for continued growth.” TPC is currently being acquired by Japan’s ENEOS Holdings Inc. and will become a consolidated subsidiary of the Japanese group’s High Performance Materials Segment, which includes synthetic rubber operations.
